繊細に編んだバオバブ樹皮と牛革のバッグ

広大なサバンナの中に、樹齢2000年を超えるバオバブが点在しています。星の王子様に登場する神秘の木、バオバブ。ケニアのバオバブ種はそれほど奇妙な形をしていないけど、立派にどっしりとサバンナの大地にたたずんで、たくさんの鳥たちの宿り木となっています。ケニアの人々にとってもバオバブはとても身近な存在で、果実・新芽・若葉はおいしく食卓に、種からは油を絞っていただきます。また、樹皮は解熱剤として役に立つ他、強靭なロープなどの材料としても活用されてきました。樹皮を割いて編んだ素材はとても丈夫な上に、少し毛糸に近いしなやかさも兼ね備えています。 ワイルドな牛革と合わせたバオバブバッグシリーズは、ケニアの職人がすべて手作業で作り上げています。
