広大なサバンナの中に、樹齢2000年を超えるバオバブが点在しています。星の王子様に登場する神秘の木、バオバブ。ケニアのバオバブ種はそれほど奇妙な形をしていないけど、立派にどっしりとサバンナの大地にたたずんで、たくさんの鳥たちの宿り木となっています。ケニアの人々のにとってもバオバブはとても身近な存在で、果実・新芽・若葉はおいしく食卓に、種からは油を絞っていただきます。また、樹皮は解熱剤として役に立つ他、強靭なロープなどの材料としても活用されてきました。樹皮を割いて編んだ素材はとても丈夫な上に、少し毛糸に近いしなやかさも兼ね備えています。

シギラママは、国立公園で整備士をしている夫と二人の子供と一緒にVoiという町に暮らしています。得意料理はウガリとスクマ、カチュンバリ。お腹をすかせた日本人青年にいつも快くおいしいご飯をつくってくれていた、笑顔が素敵な優しいママです。
She lives in a town called Voi with her two children and her husband who is a mechanic in the national park. Her special dishes are Ugari, Sukama, Kachumbari. She always made delicious meal pleasantly for one Japanese young man who was always hungry. She is so kindly and smiles brilliantly anytime.
