Ghana is a small country facing the Gulf of Guinea. Although surrounded by French speaking countries - Cote d'Ivoire, Togo and Burkina Faso, Ghana is one of Africa's English speaking countries because of its colonial history. While having tragic pasts due to the slave trade, Ghana has prospered by mixing African and European cultures in art and handcrafted products. Although you may not see vast Savannah or a lot of wild animals, you can experience warmth from villagers as they greet you with welcoming smiles.

There are more than 40 ethnic groups and about 80 languages in Ghana. As a result, there are a lot of differences across the country. Although more than 70% of Ghanaians are Christian and 15% of them are Muslim. They live peacefully without fighting because of their warm personality. Christians can go to pray in Mosques if they choose.

Traditions including craftsmanship remain in Ghanaian daily life, there is also influence from UK and neighboring countries. Arts, Graphic designs and fashions are parts of Ghanaian life. You can see women dressed like fashion models in the capital, Accra. However, 'African Batiks', which are dyed with traditional patterns and pale color by craftspeople, are also commonly worn in Ghana. Also from Ghana, 'Bolga Baskets', which are woven in Bolga Tanga, are becoming quite famous because some fashion brands have begun to sell them around the world. During slavery, beads were used instead of money. As Ghana was at the center of the slave trade its production and use of beads flourished. Ghana has a wild range of craftsmanship. We at 'daladala.' carry these beautiful crafts whose method of production has been passed on from generation to generation.
